Why Is My Samsung Washer Vibrating Excessively During Spin?

# Why Is My Samsung Washer Vibrating Excessively During Spin?

It can be unsettling when your Samsung washing machine starts shaking, vibrating, or even "walking" across the floor during a spin cycle. While some vibration is normal, especially at the start of a cycle when the machine is sensing the load, excessive shaking is a sign that something needs attention. This issue is usually caused by a few common and easily fixable problems, ranging from simple installation oversights to unbalanced loads.

## 1. Installation Issues

One of the most frequent culprits for severe vibration is improper installation. Two key factors play a major role here:

**An Uneven Surface:** Your washing machine needs to be on a perfectly level, solid floor to operate quietly and smoothly. Carpeting, soft tiles, or even a slightly uneven hard floor can cause the machine to vibrate excessively during a high-speed spin. The machine's four leveling feet must all make secure contact with the ground.

**Solution:** Adjust the leveling feet at the bottom of the machine. You can use a spirit level to check if it's balanced from front-to-back and side-to-side. After adjusting, gently shake the machine to ensure it is stable and doesn't wobble.

**Forgetting the Shipping Bolts:** This is a classic error for new front-loading machines. Shipping bolts are installed at the factory to secure the drum during transit. If you don't remove them before using the machine, they lock the drum in place, causing it to violently shake and bang during the spin cycle.

**Solution:** An easy way to check if the shipping bolts are still in is to open the door and push against the drum. The drum should rotate freely and bounce slightly when you press against it, like it's connected to springs. If it only rotates but doesn't bounce, the shipping bolts are still in place. Remove them from the back panel with a wrench before using the machine further.

## 2. Load-Related Problems

How you load your laundry has a direct impact on the washer's stability.

**Unbalanced Loads:** This is the most common reason for a shaking washer. If you wash one heavy item (like a bathmat or a pair of jeans) or a large, bulky item (like a blanket) by itself, it can throw the tub off-balance. The machine will then vibrate and shake as it tries to spin the lopsided load. If the imbalance is severe, the machine will stop the spin cycle for safety and may display a "UB" or "UE" error code.

**Solution:** Pause the cycle, open the door, and redistribute the laundry evenly around the drum. Mix large and small items to help balance the load. For bulky items like bedding, it's best not to wash them alone. The recommended load capacity for a single bedding cover is often 2.0 kg or less.

**Overloading the Machine:** While a single heavy item is a problem, overstuffing the machine with too many clothes is another. An overfilled drum can strain the motor and lead to excessive vibration and poor cleaning performance. As a general rule, there should be about a hand's width of space between the top of the laundry and the top of the drum.

## 3. Lack of Clearance

Your washing machine needs a little breathing room. If it is pushed up against a wall, cabinet, or another appliance, these vibrations can be amplified and create more noise and movement.

**Solution:** Ensure there is proper clearance around the machine. Samsung recommends leaving at least 5 cm (about 2 inches) of space on all sides. In some cases, a minimum distance of 10 cm from adjacent walls is suggested to prevent the UB/UE error.

## 4. When to Call for Professional Help

If you have tried all the steps above—leveled the machine, removed shipping bolts, balanced the load, and ensured proper clearance—but the vibration continues, the problem may be more serious. It could point to a mechanical issue like a worn-out damper, shock absorber, or suspension rod. These components are designed to absorb the tub's movement, and if they are broken or worn out, the washer will vibrate excessively.

**Solution:** In these cases, it's best to contact a professional. You can schedule a repair through an authorized Samsung service center to have a certified technician diagnose and fix the problem.
